GTA 6 Rumors Rockstar Has Never Confirmed
Rockstar has never confirmed a PC version, 60fps mode, Switch 2 port, $2bn budget or 150GB install. Here's where each GTA 6 claim actually came from.
Image: Rockstar Games
Rockstar has confirmed remarkably little about Grand Theft Auto VI: a release date, two platforms, two editions, a price, a preload date and one roughly 26-to-27-minute gameplay showcase. Almost everything else circulating — the PC version, the 60fps performance mode, the $2 billion budget, the 150 GB download, the Switch 2 port — comes from leaks, analyst modeling, or pattern-matching against GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Here is each of the big ones: the claim, where it came from, and what Rockstar has and has not said.

What Rockstar has actually said
The baseline is short. Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, re-committed to by Take-Two in its May 21 and August 7, 2026 earnings materials. The PlayStation listing says it is not playable on PS4, classes the game as single-player, and carries a PS5 Pro Enhanced badge. There are exactly two SKUs, Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. That is close to the whole official record; everything below is what got layered on top of it.
The PC version — and the dates people invented for it
Rockstar has never announced a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI. It has also never said there won’t be one. Both halves get misreported. Every first-party platform statement — the December 2023 reveal, both delay posts, the pre-order release, both storefront listings — names PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and does not mention PC, and there is no Steam, Epic or Rockstar Store PC listing.
The strongest signal available is an investor document rather than a marketing one. Take-Two’s fiscal-2027 product release table — titles expected to ship between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027 — lists GTA VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with no PC entry. That does not say a PC version doesn’t exist; it means none is scheduled to ship before March 31, 2027. On the May 21, 2026 call, Zelnick declined to commit to any date for additional platforms.
The confident “PC in early 2027” dates are arithmetic on precedent: GTA V reached PC 18 months after its console launch, RDR2 roughly a year after. A pattern in Rockstar’s history, not a statement about this game.
60fps, performance modes, and the total absence of a spec sheet
The shape of this error is unusual. It is not that Rockstar said 30fps and fans are hoping for 60. Rockstar has published no frame-rate target and no graphics-mode breakdown of any kind — no 30/60 split, no per-console performance/quality list, no resolution targets, no ray tracing statement, no upscaler (PSSR/FSR) confirmation, no HDR or VRR note, nothing specific about Xbox Series S.
Every “60fps confirmed,” “60fps on PS5 Pro only” and “Series S locked to 30” headline traces to unnamed insiders or readings of retailer listings. Treat all of it as rumor. The one real adjacent fact is the PS5 Pro Enhanced badge — and what that enhancement consists of has never been specified, with no equivalent published on the Xbox side.
“GTA Online 2” and the assumption that online lands a few weeks later
There is no announced online or multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto VI — not its existence, timing, pricing model, whether it would share the single-player map, or whether it would be bundled or standalone. The PlayStation Store lists the game as single-player, and Rockstar and Take-Two have consistently described it that way.
The near-universal expectation that online arrives a few weeks after launch is drawn entirely from precedent: GTA Online launched about two weeks after GTA V, and the Red Dead Online beta about a month after RDR2. That is a pattern, not a statement. “GTA Online 2” is a fan label, not a Rockstar one.
The genuine adjacent fact, reported secondhand rather than announced: Take-Two has confirmed continued support for the existing GTA Online. That is about the older game, not a sequel mode.
The Nintendo Switch 2 port
Rockstar, Nintendo and Take-Two have all said nothing on the record about a Switch 2 version. No announcement of any kind exists — same for Steam Deck, Linux, macOS and cloud streaming.
This feels more solid than it is because two insider claims got flattened together. In June 2026, leaker Nash Weedle claimed Rockstar had cleared the technical hurdles by subcontracting port specialists, but that the port was not ready and would not arrive in 2026. Shpeshal Nick, responding, explicitly did not confirm it: he had not heard the port was coming, only that Nintendo was working with Rockstar and Take-Two to try to make it happen. “Trying to make it happen” became “confirmed” in the retelling. Separately, a viral “Switch 2 announcement” image traces back to the self-described satire account @DiscussingFish. All rumor.
The $2 billion budget
Take-Two has published no development budget for Grand Theft Auto VI, and the $2 billion figure has no documented basis.
Its origin is specific: unverified chat messages from Arion Kurtaj, the hacker behind the 2022 Rockstar breach, who later conceded he had no documentation. It spread from a ResetEra thread explicitly labeled as rumor, and outlets progressively dropped the word “rumor” as they cited each other. The most defensible figure available is a Business Insider estimate of roughly $1–1.5 billion, itself built on anonymous analysts.
The pre-order numbers need the same care. Zelnick said on August 7, 2026 that pre-orders were at levels no one has seen before — first-party, and deliberately unquantified. The 89% Ultimate share, $260 million week-one spend and 37–51 million week-one units are Newzoo’s modeling from six markets, not Take-Two disclosure.
Install size and midnight unlock times
Neither is announced. Rockstar has published no download or install size and no day-one patch details; the 150 GB and 200 GB figures repeated across storage-prep articles are community and outlet estimates.
There is likewise no unlock map and no statement on whether November 19 unlocks at local midnight, at a single global moment, or on some other schedule. Every “GTA 6 release time by timezone” table is extrapolation dressed up as a countdown. One likely source of the confusion: pre-orders did open at midnight local time on June 25, 2026, and Rockstar said so — but that is a pre-order window, not a launch unlock. The one real timing fact is preload, which opens November 12, 2026.
Enterable buildings and radio stations
“700+ enterable buildings,” “40% of buildings enterable” and “functional malls with working elevators” all come from Discord-sourced leaks. Rockstar has never quantified interiors, and the Extended Look — which does show safehouse interiors with working TVs and personal belongings — put no number on anything.
No tracklist and no radio station list has been published. The repeated “V-Rock returns” claim and the various genre lineups are leak-derived; the only music safely attributable to the game is what plays in official trailers, such as Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road” in Trailer 1. One partial exception, worth stating precisely: a V-Rock logo appears on a shirt Jason wears in official Rockstar art. That is an observation about artwork — suggestive, but not a Rockstar statement, and never to be written as “V-Rock is confirmed.”
Confirmed, but only through an interview
A few widely-cited details are accurate and still get attributed to the wrong source. These came from Rockstar people talking to press during the August 2026 press wave, not from any Newswire post:
| Detail | Actual source | How to phrase it |
|---|---|---|
| Map is ~2x GTA V and ~3x Red Dead Redemption 2 | Rob Nelson, Rockstar North, to the New York Times and YouTuber TGG | “Rockstar’s Rob Nelson told the New York Times…” |
| Vice City is about twice the size of Los Santos | Same interviews | Same attribution |
| ~80 hours to play through | Nelson describing his own playthrough, story plus some optional content | Never “GTA 6 is 80 hours long” |
The map-size figure is the rare leak that later got corroborated — it circulated from leaks first, and Nelson subsequently gave the same numbers on the record. It is still an interview quote, not an announcement.
Ratings work the same way. Rockstar’s June 2026 pre-order release said “not yet rated,” and the ESRB and PEGI ratings remain unconfirmed — the M17+ descriptor lists circulating come from a Sony marketing email and from prediction-by-precedent. Australia is the exception: the Australian Classification Board has published an MA 15+ classification, a regulator’s own record rather than a leak, and notable because GTA V was rated R 18+ there.
Claims that have been knocked down
- “Delayed to 2027.” Recurring, mostly from small X accounts. Take-Two reaffirmed November 19, 2026 in both its May 21 and August 7, 2026 earnings materials.
- “Physical copies delayed to stop leaks.” Zelnick rejected this directly; the boxed version goes on sale November 12 specifically to support preloading.
- “There’s a Collector’s Edition.” Any Collector’s, Deluxe, Gold or early-access tier is fabricated or a retailer’s own bundle, and nothing official offers play before November 19.
- “Cryptocurrency payouts.” Tom Henderson floated this in 2021 and has since walked it back. No Rockstar or Take-Two statement exists either way.
How to check any GTA 6 claim yourself
One test catches almost everything: can the claim be traced to rockstargames.com, a Rockstar or Take-Two social post, a Take-Two investor document or earnings call, or a live storefront listing? If not, it is somebody’s inference — possibly well-informed, possibly true, but not yet a fact. We will update this page as claims move columns.
Frequently asked questions
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Rockstar has never announced a PC version, and has never said there won't be one. There is no PC storefront listing, and Take-Two's fiscal-2027 product table lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, meaning nothing PC is scheduled to ship before March 31, 2027.
Is GTA 6 running at 60fps?
Unknown. Rockstar has published no frame-rate target and no per-console performance/quality mode breakdown at all. Every '60fps confirmed' headline traces back to unnamed insiders or readings of retailer listings.
Will GTA Online 2 launch with GTA 6?
There is no announced online or multiplayer mode. The PlayStation Store lists Grand Theft Auto VI as single-player, and the widely repeated 'online arrives a few weeks later' timeline is extrapolated from GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, not from anything Rockstar has said.
Did GTA 6 really cost $2 billion to make?
There is no evidence for that number. It traces to unverified chat messages from the hacker behind the 2022 Rockstar breach, who later conceded he had no documentation. Take-Two has published no development budget.
How big is the GTA 6 download?
Not announced. The 150 GB and 200 GB figures circulating are community and outlet estimates. Rockstar has published no install size, though preload does open November 12, 2026.
