Grand Theft Auto VI launches Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, at $79.99 standard and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. It’s a single-player open-world action-adventure set in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, starring two protagonists, Jason and Lucia — and on August 27, 2026 Rockstar finally showed it running in a roughly 26-minute video called An Extended Look.

Rockstar publishes very little about this game, and leaks fill the gap. This page covers only what Rockstar, Take-Two and official storefronts have said — and, at the end, a plain list of what they haven’t.

What Grand Theft Auto VI is

The seventh main entry, developed by Rockstar Games with Rockstar North in Edinburgh as lead studio, published under Take-Two Interactive. Announced in December 2023 under a headline reading “Coming 2025,” it has moved twice since. The PlayStation Store lists it as single-player, and Rockstar has consistently described it that way: there is no announced online or multiplayer mode at launch. One housekeeping note — Rockstar’s shorthand is “GTA VI,” and its only official web home is rockstargames.com/VI. Any “gta6.com”-style site is fan-run.

The setting: Vice City and the state of Leonida

GTA VI is set in Leonida, a fictional Florida analogue centered on Vice City — the Miami stand-in that last headlined a GTA game in 2002. Rockstar’s site copy opens the premise: “Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them.” An easy score goes wrong and drops them into a criminal conspiracy spanning the state.

Other Leonida place names appear in trailers and screenshots — the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers (an Everglades analogue), Mount Kalaga National Park, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia — but they’re compiled from footage rather than announced, so treat them as trailer-sourced. Tonally: modern-day Florida satire, all influencer culture and tabloid crime.

Jason and Lucia

Rockstar published both bios alongside Trailer 2 in May 2025. Jason Duval is an Army veteran who grew up around grifters and crooks, working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys. Lucia Caminos is from Liberty City, imprisoned after fighting for her family and released by luck — the series’ first non-optional female protagonist. The “Bonnie and Clyde” framing is the press’s, not a Rockstar phrase.

Rockstar named the supporting cast on the same pages: Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Raul Bautista, Brian Heder, and the duo Bae-Luxe and Roxy (“Real Dimez”). Outlets summarising those bios describe Hampton as a paranoid friend of Jason’s, Ike as a Vice City businessman, Priest as a record-label owner, Bautista as a veteran bank robber and Heder as a long-serving drug runner.

Release date, and the delay history

Rockstar announced November 19, 2026 on Newswire and X on November 6, 2025, apologizing for the wait and citing the polish players expect. Take-Two has re-committed twice since: its May 21, 2026 results credited a record fiscal 2027 to that launch, and its August 7, 2026 results reiterated an $8.0–8.2bn outlook on the same basis.

The history behind it: announced as “Coming 2025” in December 2023, narrowed to “Fall 2025” at Take-Two’s May 2024 earnings, pushed to May 26, 2026 on May 2, 2025, then pushed again to November 19, 2026. That’s two delays, not three — anyone counting three is including the 2024 narrowing, which tightened a window rather than moving a date.

Two related dates are confirmed: digital pre-orders preload from November 12, 2026, and the boxed version goes on sale that day specifically to enable it. The launch-day unlock time has not been announced — no regional map, no local-versus-global-midnight statement — so every countdown table is extrapolation. Our release date and preload guide tracks it.

Platforms: two, and the PC question

PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X|S. Nothing else. That’s the wording in every first-party statement since the 2023 reveal, and the PlayStation listing explicitly notes the game is not playable on PS4.

PC gets misreported in both directions, so state it carefully: Rockstar has never announced a PC version, and has never announced that there won’t be one. There is no PC page on Steam, Epic or the Rockstar Store, and no window. The strongest first-party signal is an investor document — Take-Two’s fiscal-2027 release table, covering titles shipping between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027, lists GTA VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with no PC entry. That doesn’t mean a PC version doesn’t exist; it means none is scheduled before March 31, 2027. More in our PC release date breakdown.

Confirmed technically: the PlayStation listing carries a PS5 Pro Enhanced badge (what it does is unspecified), plus DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers and speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and Remote Play. Frame rate, graphics modes, resolution, install size and Series S specifics are all unannounced, as are Switch 2, Game Pass and PS Plus.

Editions and price

Two SKUs exist, and only two.

EditionPriceNotes
Standard$79.99The only edition sold in a box
Ultimate$99.99Digital only; premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and activities threaded through the story

Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 on PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and retailers. Every pre-order — and any purchase before November 20, 2026 — includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, a 2002-flavored nostalgia bundle; digital pre-orders also get one free month of GTA+, claimable until March 31, 2027.

The physical release is the controversial part: the box contains a download code, not a disc, which is why it goes on sale November 12 to support preloading, and it drew heavy backlash over ownership and resale. There is no Collector’s, Deluxe, Gold or Special Edition, and nothing official grants play before November 19 — any listing claiming otherwise is a retailer bundle or a fabrication. Our editions and pre-order guide has the full breakdown.

What the Extended Look actually showed

Until August 27, 2026, Rockstar had shown two cinematic trailers and almost no mechanics. “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” changed that: roughly 26–27 minutes, premiered on Netflix at 3pm ET under a first-of-its-kind Rockstar/Netflix partnership, then posted to Rockstar’s own channels at 9pm ET. Rockstar’s caption states it was captured entirely in-game on a base PlayStation 5. (“Trailer 3” is a fan label.)

What it shows on screen:

  • Character switching across the map, including a base-jump transition. The pair run separate storylines and converge on shared jobs; at least one job is offered on the condition that only one of them can take it.
  • A six-star Wanted system — a return to six stars after GTA V’s five — with patrol cars, armed officers and helicopters. Hollow stars appear to indicate the player hasn’t been positively identified.
  • A relationship system between the two leads, influenced by shared activities like shopping, exercise and jobs; they can call, message and meet in the open world. Previews describe it as shaping available interactions rather than granting bonuses.
  • Cover-based gunplay with a weapon wheel, a slow-motion aiming state highlighting kill and incapacitate points, contextual melee prompts, and shooting from moving vehicles. Stealing a car takes a break-in sequence, not one button.
  • Robberies at every scale, from gas stations and diners up to story-linked jobs, with police response afterward and split responsibilities during heists.
  • An on-screen morality indicator after small acts — an angel icon after Jason pets a dog — consistent with a Red Dead-style honor system, though never named on screen.
  • Decorated safehouse interiors, and a long free-roam list: basketball, pool, weightlifting, swimming, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, hunting, base jumping, parachuting, shooting ranges, racing, jet skis, fan boats, electric scooters.
  • In-world social media and livestreaming with viewer-comment overlays, influencers and viral-video gags, plus Rockstar’s usual advertising satire.

Previews also noted dense crowds and far more naturalistic locomotion than previous GTA games.

How big, and how long

Both figures belong to Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, speaking to the New York Times and YouTuber TGG in the August 2026 press wave — not a Newswire post, so attribute them to Nelson, not to “Rockstar announced.” He says the map is roughly twice the size of GTA V’s and three times Red Dead Redemption 2’s, with Vice City about twice the size of Los Santos, and that his own playthrough ran about 80 hours: one developer’s run, not an official completion time.

Age ratings: Australia is official, ESRB and PEGI are not

Most sites get this wrong, so here’s the split.

The Australian rating is published and official. The Australian Classification Board has classified GTA VI MA 15+, with consumer advice covering strong violence, sexual content, nudity and coarse language (the exact descriptor list reported by outlets varies, so we have not reproduced it verbatim). That’s a statutory regulator’s own database record — newsworthy, because GTA V was rated R 18+ in Australia.

ESRB and PEGI ratings remain unconfirmed. Rockstar’s June 2026 pre-order release carried the line “not yet rated,” the PlayStation listing showed an ESRB rating pending, and no PEGI listing exists. Outlets reported a Mature 17+ classification surfacing via a Sony marketing email in May 2026, but the ESRB has published no final rating — secondary reporting, not a rating.

What Rockstar has not said

This list is longer than the confirmed one, and almost nobody publishes it. None of it has any first-party basis:

TopicStatus
PC version, date or windowNot announced — and not ruled out
Frame rate, graphics modes, resolutionNot announced. “60fps confirmed” traces to unnamed insiders
Online mode / “GTA Online 2”Nothing announced: not existence, timing, pricing or map
Download and install sizeNot announced. The 150–200 GB figures are community estimates
Launch unlock time, review embargoNot announced
Radio stations and soundtrackNo tracklist or station list
Nintendo Switch 2 versionRumor only; Rockstar, Nintendo and Take-Two have said nothing
Game Pass or PS Plus at launchNot announced — an absence, not a denial
New Game+, photo mode, first-person mode, difficulty, character creator, property and business ownership, mod tools, DLC, season passNothing stated on any
Budget, languages, accessibility featuresNot published. The “$2 billion” figure traces to unverified hacker chat logs

Three deserve a warning label. “V-Rock returns” is leak-derived; what exists is a V-Rock logo on a t-shirt Jason wears in official art — suggestive, nothing more. The “700+ enterable buildings” stat comes from Discord leaks, and the Extended Look did not quantify interiors. And through August 2026 a leaker operating as “CyberLeek” published more than a dozen gameplay videos with story spoilers, apparently from a playable build. Rockstar acknowledged them on August 26; anything sourced there is unverified, unauthorized and disowned by Rockstar, and doesn’t appear here as fact.

For a claim-by-claim breakdown of what’s circulating and where each rumor came from, see our rumors vs. confirmed guide. We’ll update this page each time Rockstar moves something out of that column.

Frequently asked questions

When does GTA 6 come out?

Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar announced that date on November 6, 2025 and has not changed it since; Take-Two reaffirmed it in both its May 21 and August 7, 2026 earnings materials.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Rockstar has not announced a PC version. It has also never said there won't be one — there is simply no announcement, no storefront listing and no window. Take-Two's fiscal-2027 release table lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

How much does GTA 6 cost?

$79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Those are the only two editions Rockstar has announced — there is no Collector's, Deluxe or early-access tier.

How many times has GTA 6 been delayed?

Twice. From the original 2025 window to May 26, 2026 (announced May 2, 2025), then to November 19, 2026 (announced November 6, 2025). The May 2024 narrowing from 2025 to Fall 2025 was not a delay.

What is GTA 6 rated?

The Australian Classification Board has classified it MA 15+. ESRB and PEGI ratings remain unconfirmed — Rockstar's own June 2026 pre-order release described the game as not yet rated.
