GTA 6 Release Date, Preload & Full Delay History
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Full delay history, the November 12 preload date, and the 2027 rumor debunked.

Grand Theft Auto VI releases on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar announced that date on November 6, 2025, and it has not moved since â Take-Two has publicly recommitted to it twice, most recently on August 7, 2026.
If you landed here because you saw a headline about a 2027 delay, or because you canât work out whether the game has slipped twice or three times, this page sorts both out. Below: the complete dated delay history, the confirmed November 12 preload date, and why every âGTA 6 unlock time by timezoneâ table currently online is guesswork.
Release date and platforms
| Release date | Thursday, November 19, 2026 |
| Platforms | PlayStation 5 (incl. PS5 Pro), Xbox Series X|S |
| Preload / physical on-sale | November 12, 2026 |
| Price | $79.99 Standard / $99.99 Ultimate |
| Unlock time | Not announced |
Rockstarâs Newswire post announcing the date apologized for the additional wait and said the extra months would let the team finish the game to the level of polish players expect. Take-Two filed alongside it, folding the new date into its fiscal Q2 2026 results.
There is no PS4 version â the PlayStation Store listing states the game is not playable on PS4 â and Rockstar has never announced a PC version. It has also never said there wonât be one. Take-Twoâs fiscal-2027 product release table, covering titles expected to ship between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027, lists GTA VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with no PC entry. That means no PC version is scheduled to ship before March 31, 2027; it is not a statement that one doesnât exist.
The full delay history, dated
This is the part most pages get wrong. Here is every release window Rockstar or Take-Two has officially given, when it was given, and by whom.
| Date or window announced | Announced on | Announced by | Source type |
|---|---|---|---|
| âComing 2025â | December 2023 (reveal) | Rockstar / Take-Two press release | First-party |
| Narrowed to âFall 2025â | May 16, 2024 | Take-Two, Q4 FY2024 earnings â Zelnick declined to go narrower | First-party material |
| May 26, 2026 | May 2, 2025 | Rockstar Newswire; Take-Two filed the same day | First-party |
| November 19, 2026 | November 6, 2025 | Rockstar Newswire and X, alongside Take-Twoâs fiscal Q2 2026 results | First-party |
That is two delays, not three. Anyone writing âdelayed three timesâ is counting the May 2024 narrowing from â2025â to âFall 2025,â which was a tightening of an existing window, not a slip.
The May 2, 2025 post apologized that the date was later than players expected and cited the time needed to deliver the quality the team wanted; TTWO stock fell roughly 8% in early trading that day. The November 2025 announcement was handled the same way, arriving minutes before an earnings call and framed as giving Rockstar additional time to finish.
No, GTA 6 has not been delayed to 2027
The 2027 delay claim resurfaces every few weeks, usually from small social accounts with no sourcing. There is no first-party basis for it, and there is a substantial first-party record against it.
- May 21, 2026 (Q4/FY2026 results). Take-Two said fiscal 2027 would set records, âdriven by the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.â The FY2027 product release table lists the game for that fiscal year.
- August 7, 2026 (Q1 FY2027 results). Take-Two reiterated its $8.0â8.2 billion fiscal-2027 outlook on the strength of that launch.
- On the May 21 call, CEO Strauss Zelnick said the date is firm and the game will not slip again. Treat that as a chief executiveâs stated confidence rather than a guarantee â and note that it reaches us through reporting on the call, not a Rockstar or Take-Two post.
- Rockstarâs marketing cadence matches the date. The 26-to-27-minute âGrand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look,â the first official gameplay showcase, premiered on August 27, 2026, captured in-game on a base PlayStation 5.
None of that makes a third delay impossible. It does mean that as of late August 2026, every claim of a 2027 date is unsourced, and the only dates any company involved has actually put its name to are the four in the table above.
Preload: November 12, 2026
Digital pre-orders can pre-load from November 12, 2026 â seven days before launch. This one is first-party: it comes directly from Take-Twoâs official pre-order announcement, not from a storefront reading or a leak.
Rockstar has not announced a download size. The 150 GB and 200 GB figures circulating widely are community and outlet estimates with no first-party backing, so budget space generously rather than planning around a specific number.
The physical version is a code in a box, and it ships a week early
The boxed version also goes on sale November 12, 2026, and Take-Twoâs release states plainly that the earlier retail date exists specifically to support pre-loading. Thatâs because the physical version contains a download code, not a disc.
Two consequences worth knowing before you pre-order:
- Reporting on the announcement has the boxed release as Standard Edition only, with the Ultimate Edition digital-only and no retail box at all. That consequence is secondary; Take-Twoâs release itself only states the code-in-a-box format and the November 12 on-sale date.
- The code-in-a-box decision drew heavy backlash from players and retailers over ownership and resale. That reporting is secondary; the design decision itself is stated in the official release.
A rumor circulated, sourced to a Polish outlet citing anonymous sources, that physical copies were being held back to prevent early leaks. Zelnick rejected it directly, saying that is not the plan, and the official pre-order release already gave the pre-loading rationale for the November 12 date.
Launch unlock times: nothing has been announced
Rockstar has published no unlock times for Grand Theft Auto VI. There is no regional unlock map, and no statement on whether November 19 arrives at local midnight in each territory or at a single synchronized global timestamp.
That matters because unlock-time pages for this game are a small industry, and they are all extrapolating. If you see a table telling you GTA 6 unlocks at midnight local time, or at a specific UTC hour, that figure is not sourced to Rockstar â it is either an assumption based on how other publishers have handled launches or a reading of a countdown widget.
The honest answer today is that the unlock behavior is unknown. Pre-loading from November 12 means youâll be ready either way, and weâll update this page the moment Rockstar publishes anything.
Editions and price at launch
Two SKUs were announced on June 24, 2026, and only two.
| Edition | Price | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $79.99 | Digital and physical (code in box) |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | Digital only (per reporting) |
No Collectorâs, Deluxe, Gold or Special Edition exists, and no edition grants early access â nothing official is playable before November 19. Any listing you find advertising a GTA 6 Collectorâs Edition is either fabricated or a third-party retailerâs own bundle.
The Vintage Vice City Pack is included with all pre-orders and any purchase made before November 20, 2026, which makes it an early-buyer bonus rather than a pre-order exclusive. Digital pre-orders also include one free month of GTA+; the PlayStation listing notes it must be claimed by March 31, 2027.
What is still unannounced about launch day
The list of things Rockstar hasnât said about November 19 is longer than the list of things it has.
| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| Regional unlock times | Not announced |
| Download / install size | Not announced (circulating figures are estimates) |
| Review embargo date | Not announced |
| Frame rate and graphics modes | Not announced; â60fps confirmedâ claims are rumor |
| Day-one patch | Not announced |
| ESRB and PEGI ratings | Not announced â the June 2026 release said ânot yet ratedâ |
| PC version or window | Never announced |
| Online / multiplayer mode | Never announced |
| Game Pass or PS Plus at launch | Not announced |
One rating exception is worth flagging, because it is genuinely official: the Australian Classification Board has published an MA 15+ classification for Grand Theft Auto VI on the national classification database, with consumer advice covering strong violence, sexual content, nudity and coarse language (the exact descriptor list reported by outlets varies, so we have not reproduced it verbatim). That is a statutory regulatorâs own record rather than a leak â notable because GTA V was rated R 18+ in Australia. Rockstar and Take-Two have still announced no ratings themselves, and the ESRB and PEGI listings remain pending.
Weâll update this page as each of the unannounced items lands. Meanwhile, our editions and pre-order guide breaks down what the extra $20 for Ultimate actually buys, and everything we know separates the confirmed from the merely widely-repeated.
