Halloween: The Game — All 3 Endings Explained
Halloween: The Game has three endings, all in Chapter Five. Two guides disagree on how they're triggered — what each claims, and what nobody has tested.

Halloween: The Game has three endings, and all three are reached inside the final chapter — Chapter Five, Into the Shadows — by leaving the map through one of three exits: the sewer, the railroad tracks, or the cornfield. What nobody has actually established is whether the exit is the only thing that decides your ending, and that is where two post-launch guides flatly contradict each other.
If you searched this because one page told you to just replay Chapter Five and another told you your choices across the whole campaign are being tracked, you are not confused — the sources are. Here is exactly who claims what.
The three endings are three exits
The two guides that have actually mapped Chapter Five agree on this much: the ending is decided there, and the three outcomes correspond to three physical ways out of the map.
| Ending | Exit | Route (secondary, one guide) |
|---|---|---|
| Sewer | Sewer entrance in the northern half of the map | Head north, then west and north, and pry open the sewer entrance |
| Railroad | The train crossing, northwest | Move northwest and cross the tracks once the train has cleared |
| Cornfield | The corn rows | Go right and slightly north early, then enter the corn |
Those directions come from a single post-launch guide, not from IllFonic. Treat them as a secondary report. The same source notes that the sewer escape prompt appears once Michael is deep in the northern half of the map, which is why most players get that one by default.
IllFonic has never published an ending count. The only official wording on the subject is that the campaign offers “multiple endings based on player choices,” alongside multiple difficulties, optional objectives and secret collectibles. That phrase — based on player choices — is doing a lot of unearned work in secondary coverage.
The conflict: exit-only, or cumulative flags?
Two explanations are circulating. They are not compatible, and the difference matters enormously for how much work seeing all three costs you.
| Position A — exit only | Position B — cumulative behavior | |
|---|---|---|
| Claim | “The ending changes based on the direction you travel and which escape prompt you follow once Into the Shadows is underway” | “The final outcome is not determined by a single choice but by cumulative behavior across all five chapters” |
| Implication | Replay Chapter Five, take a different exit, get a different ending | Mid-campaign decisions “carry real weight”; a full replay may be needed |
| Source | A post-launch endings guide | A community wiki’s story-mode guide |
| Explicit on replays? | Yes — “You never have to replay the Prologue or the earlier chapters to see a different outcome” | No specific method given |
Neither is first-party. Nobody has published an actual controlled test — the definitive answer would come from replaying Chapter Five three times from the same save with identical prior-chapter behavior and reporting whether the exit alone changes the ending. That article does not exist yet. Anyone telling you flatly which model the game uses is asserting, not demonstrating.
Why the evidence leans toward the exit-only explanation
We are not going to pretend this is a coin flip. The weight of what is currently documented favors Position A, on two grounds — but “leans toward” is as far as the evidence goes.
First, the wiki pushing Position B gets the campaign’s basic structure wrong. It describes five unnamed chapters with generic objectives and no prologue. Two independent guides name all six playable sections in the same order — Prologue: Escape From Smith’s Grove, then Chapter One: The Road To Haddonfield, Chapter Two: Main Street, Chapter Three: Returning Home, Chapter Four: The Babysitters, and Chapter Five: Into The Shadows. A source that miscounts the chapters is a weak witness on what those chapters secretly track.
Second, an independent walkthrough documents two of the three exits as literal level geography rather than narrative payoffs. Its section headings for Chapter Five are “Escape Through The Sewer” and “Escape Over The Tracks” — the language of route options in a stealth level, not of earned endings. That is circumstantial, but it is the kind of detail that tends to reflect how a level is actually built.
What would change our minds: a first-party statement from IllFonic, or one player running the same-save test in both directions. We will update this page if either lands.
The cornfield ending
The cornfield is the one you are least likely to stumble into, because the sewer prompt is the one that fires by default once you are deep in the northern half of the map. The routing reported for it is to go right and slightly north early in the chapter, then enter the corn rows rather than committing to that northern half.
Two practical notes. Chapter Five is also the shortest section in the campaign — one player’s stopwatch run on Normal clocked it at 7 minutes 34 seconds, against 35 minutes for Chapter Four — so if the exit-only model holds, the cornfield is a cheap ten-minute detour rather than a second campaign. And Chapter Five is thick with police and with Dr. Loomis, whose line of sight shows as a red marker on your map; one of the chapter’s six challenges is escaping without Loomis detecting you at all. Whichever exit you are heading for, the pressure is the same.
Spoilers: what actually changes between them
Mild ending spoilers in this section only — skip to the next heading if you want none.
The ending you get does not change Michael’s fate. The route-specific scenes differ, but they converge on the same Dr. Loomis narration. These are variations on one conclusion, not three branching fates, and there is no “good ending” to chase.
That is worth internalizing before you spend an evening on it. The reason to see all three is completeness and the two extra chapter achievements, not a hidden resolution.
Trophies: you do not need all three
No trophy requires seeing every ending. Each of the three grants its own chapter achievement plus “The End,” and there is no all-endings trophy on the list. This is a secondary report rather than an IllFonic statement, but nothing published contradicts it, and it is consistent with the wider trophy list — 51 trophies, with the Platinum (“The Shape”) gated on grinds like eliminating 250 residents as Michael and collecting all 14 story recordings, not on ending variety.
Three hidden trophies were still undiscovered as of September 3, so it remains formally possible that one of them touches the endings. Nobody can currently tell you what they are.
Replaying for a different ending
Chapter select works, and post-game is essentially chapter select plus multiplayer progression — there is no documented new game plus. Missed challenges can be cleaned up on a replay, and you can return to a chapter without redoing the earlier ones. That is documented for challenges specifically.
One caveat that catches people: whether chapter select preserves collectible progress is unconfirmed. No source we have addresses it. If you are also chasing the Collector trophy, do not assume a Chapter Five replay for the cornfield is free of consequences for your tape count until someone establishes that it is.
Still open
- Whether earlier-chapter behavior feeds the ending at all. Two sources, no test.
- IllFonic’s own ending count — never published. “Three” is a secondary tally.
- Whether any of the three undiscovered hidden trophies relates to the endings.
- Whether collectible progress survives a chapter-select replay.

Frequently asked questions
How many endings does Halloween: The Game have?
Three, according to the guides that have mapped the campaign — reached through three different exits from Chapter Five, Into the Shadows: the sewer, the railroad tracks, and the cornfield. IllFonic has never published a number itself; its only official wording is that the campaign has 'multiple endings based on player choices.'
How do you get the cornfield ending?
Head right and slightly north early in Chapter Five and enter the corn rows, rather than continuing toward the sewer entrance in the northern half of the map. This routing comes from a single post-launch guide, not from IllFonic, so treat it as a secondary report rather than a documented trigger.
Do your choices in earlier chapters change the ending?
This is genuinely unsettled. One guide says the ending depends only on which exit you take in Chapter Five and that you never need to replay earlier chapters. A wiki says the outcome is set by cumulative behavior across all five chapters. Nobody has published a controlled test, so neither claim is proven.
Is there a best or good ending in Halloween: The Game?
No. The ending you get does not change Michael's fate — the route-specific scenes differ but converge on the same Dr. Loomis narration. They are variations, not branching outcomes.
Is there a trophy for seeing all three endings?
No. Each ending grants its own chapter achievement plus 'The End,' and no trophy requires all three. This is a secondary report, not a first-party statement, but no source contradicts it.
